Costa MayaThe Costa Maya is located on the Caribbean Coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. The Costa Maya is well south of the international tourist destination of Cancún and just a short drive from the state capital of Chetumal. The area was orginally discovered over 2000 years ago by the Mayan people, whose fishermen regarded it as a fishing paradise. Today the Costa Maya offers high grade beaches for real estate investment, quiet enjoyment and, of course, fishing. Protected by a strong living off-shore coral reef for protection, the Costa Maya has no beach erosion. Market ConditionsAs government-funded improvements along the Mayan Coast progress, real estate prices continue to rise. But prices on the Costa Maya are still well below the prices on the Mayan Riviera to the North. Infrastructure improvements include new roads and highways, fiber optics, water, electricity, marinas, and three airports. Major private sector improvements include a cruise ship dock with an oceanfront shopping mall, restaurants, boutique hotels, and a beach club/marina. The Costa Maya is a government sponsored investment to rejuvenate the economy of the southern part of the state of Quintana Roo. As an investor you are merely following the investments of the federal and state governments. With its new cruise ship dock, Costa Maya is being successfully promotoed as a cruise ship destination in the western Caribbean. Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Celebrity, Princess, Norwegian, Disney, Carnival, Cunard, and Regal have started docking at the Costa Maya. It is estimated that 910,000 passengers arrived in 2005 and over a million passengers arrived in 2006. |
