The City of Merida is the Capital of the state of Yucatan and the economic and cultural center of South-eastern Mexico. Merida, known also as “the White City,” is considered the cultural and tourist capital of the Mayan World and is near the beautiful beaches of Yucatan Bay. The city has a special colonial flavor and the most important archeological sites of the Mayan culture: Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Mayapan and Kabah. You’ll also find movies, theaters, hospitals, public and private schools, four universities, shopping malls, and chain stores such as Sam’s, Costco, WalMart, the French supermarket Carrefour, as well as the Mexican chains of Liverpool, Comercial Mexicana, Soriana and Sanborn's.

Merida International Airport has direct flights to and from Atlanta, Houston and Miami. Also, Merida is conveniently reached by direct bus lines from Cancun International Airport, which is well connected to most important cities around the world. Continental Airlines fly from Houston, Texas direct, non-stop to Merida and AeroMexico, Delta flights from Atlanta and Mexicana offer direct flights from Miami.
